Pingliang
Gansu province · China
Pingliang, a large city in eastern Gansu province, is best known for the Kongtong Mountains on its doorstep — a range sacred to Taoism and traditionally identified as the site where the mythical Yellow Emperor met the immortal Guangchengzi. The city sits at the junction of Gansu, Shaanxi, and Ningxia, and was a key stop on the ancient Silk Road, historically called the "first city west of Chang'an." Established in 376 AD, it also has early ties to the Ashina tribe, founders of the First Turkic Khaganate.
