This compact Mississippi city on the western edge of Claiborne County, Port Gibson sits along the Mississippi River with an unusual concentration of churches for a settlement its size. Chartered in 1803 following the Louisiana Purchase, it saw Civil War action and later became home to The Rabbit's Foot Company, whose taverns and juke joints are now part of the Mississippi Blues Trail. Several sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
