Prilep
North Macedonia
Nicknamed "the city under Marko's towers" for the medieval fortress built by the legendary King Marko, Prilep is a town in southwestern North Macedonia known as the country's tobacco and beer capital — tobacco leaves dry across the city and its brewery produces most of North Macedonia's most popular beers. The town's former role as capital of a medieval kingdom left a legacy of churches and monasteries in the surrounding area, and its centre has a walkable café and restaurant scene.
