Puerto Carreño
Puerto Carreño · Colombia
Founded in 1922 at the confluence of the Orinoco and Meta rivers on Colombia's Venezuelan border, Puerto Carreño serves as the main river port and capital of Vichada, the country's second-largest department. The town is a base for adventure and ecological tourism across the surrounding Llanos, and is known for peacock bass fishing on the Vita River, Indigenous artisans from the Orinoquia region, and a llanero culture — music, dance, and dress — shared with neighbouring Venezuela. Cashew fruit and a wide variety of mango trees are local agricultural staples.
