Puerto Cumarebo, the municipal capital of Zamora in Venezuela's Falcón state, traces its origins to around 1600, when a community of Loango people who had escaped from Curaçao settled here, with the town later taking its name from a local indigenous leader. A coastal town a short distance east of Coro, it sits where plains and rivers meet low hills, and is sometimes called the Pearl of Falcón. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
