Puerto del Hambre
Punta Arenas · Chile
Puerto del Hambre — also known by its original name Ciudad del Rey Don Felipe — marks the site of the first European attempt to establish a permanent settlement on the north shore of the Strait of Magellan, in Chilean Patagonia. A monument near the site marks what is sometimes considered the geographical centre of Chile, given the country's Antarctic territorial claims extending to the South Pole. The site sits close to mountains and the strait's edge, with scenic viewpoints across the surrounding landscape, a short drive south of Punta Arenas.
