Founded on August 6, 1888 by settlers from the Tyrolean region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Puerto Tirol is a pocket-sized industrial town in Argentina's Chaco Province, close to the city of Resistencia. One of the first towns to take shape in the Chaco territory, it grew around tannin extraction and other industries in the early 20th century, and today hosts one of the few surviving tannin plants in the world alongside a significant industrial park.
