Waterfront town on Florida's southwest coast, Punta Gorda has a walkable centre with a real café and restaurant scene along the harbour. The Harborwalk and Linear Park offer pedestrian and cycling routes beside the water, and Laishley Park Municipal Marina anchors the shoreline. Much of the town was rebuilt after Hurricane Charley struck in August 2004, and the reconstruction brought the existing historic fabric up to modern hurricane-resistant standards while adding new waterfront amenities.
