Pursat, the provincial capital on the Pursat River in western Cambodia, is known for the mythical 16th-century spirit figure Khleang Moeung, whose legend is tied to this town. The river runs within walking distance of the centre, and mountains lie close by. Beyond that local legend, the town functions as a quiet stopover for travellers moving through the region rather than a destination in its own right.
