A tiny hilltop hamlet in the Aude that draws tens of thousands of visitors each year to the mystery surrounding 19th-century priest Bérenger Saunière, who renovated the local church and was later suspended from his duties amid unresolved questions about the source of his wealth. The story gained global reach through Dan Brown's *Da Vinci Code*. A museum dedicated to Saunière sits at the heart of the village, which lies within the limestone Corbières massif between the Massif Central and the Pyrenees.
