Requena

A wine-country town in the interior of Valencia province, Requena sits on the left bank of the river Magro with a compact centre of cafés and restaurants. Its ancient Moorish citadel still dominates the skyline, and traces of the original town walls survive alongside three medieval parish churches, the oldest of which — San Nicolás — dates to the 13th century. The surrounding comarca, known informally as "Castilian Valencia," reflects centuries of Castilian rather than Valencian rule.
