Saint-Palais-sur-Mer
France
A modest Atlantic seaside town on France's Côte de Beauté, just west of Royan in Charente-Maritime, Saint-Palais-sur-Mer developed as a resort in the late 19th century and retains a concentration of Belle Époque and interwar villas set among pine forest. Five beaches are linked by a coastal path that passes rock formations including the Pont du Diable, and the town centre has a lively café and restaurant scene. It has hosted the Crescendo progressive rock festival each August since 1999.
