Every winter, a temporary village of fishing huts rises on the frozen Sainte-Anne River at this compact Quebec municipality, which calls itself the world capital of Atlantic tomcod fishing. The season typically runs from late December through mid-February, drawing ice fishers to the north shore of the St. Lawrence. The centrepiece of the village year-round is the Catholic church of Sainte-Anne, modelled on Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica.
