Samawah
Iraq
Samawah sits on both banks of the Euphrates River in southern Iraq, roughly midway between Baghdad and Basra, and serves as the capital of Al Muthanna Governorate. The city is surrounded by extensive date-palm groves celebrated enough to inspire an Iraqi folk song, and nearby Lake Sawa — a deep saltwater lake — offers a natural landmark close to the urban centre. The older quarters include traditional markets such as the Masquf market.
