A lakeside town in Argentina's Patagonian Andes, San Martín de los Andes sits on the eastern shore of Lago Lácar with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants and scenic viewpoints across the surrounding mountains. Founded in 1898 as a military outpost, it grew into one of Neuquén province's main tourism destinations after Lanín National Park opened in 1937. The nearby Cerro Chapelco ski area draws winter visitors, while the lake beaches attract summer crowds.
