Senj
Croatia
Sitting where the Adriatic meets the foothills of the Velebit mountains, Senj is a small Croatian coastal town with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size. Its landmark is the Nehaj Fortress, completed in 1558, which served as the base of the Uskoks — Christian refugees from Ottoman Bosnia who were resettled here to guard the Habsburg frontier and later accused of piracy by Venice, leading to their expulsion in 1617.
