Sennar
Sudan
Sennar served as the first capital of modern Sudan and, for several centuries before that, as the seat of the Sultanate of Sennar — a kingdom that ruled much of Sudan through the 17th century until 1821. The city sits on the western bank of the Blue Nile in central Sudan and today functions as one of the country's major commercial centres and a key railway junction.
