The highest provincial capital in Iran, Shahr-e Kord sits in the Zagros mountains at an elevation that has earned it the informal title "Roof of Iran." The city is also known as Iran's national centre for felt-making (namad), a traditional craft. Formerly called Dehkord, it was renamed when it gained city status in 1935. Isfahan lies a short drive away, making Shahr-e Kord a practical base for exploring the wider region.
