River city in central Sarawak on the island of Borneo, Sibu sits at the confluence of the Rajang and Igan Rivers and serves as the main departure point for boat journeys up the Rajang into Borneo's interior. The city centre is walkable and well-supplied with cafés and restaurants, reflecting its strong Fuzhou Chinese heritage — a community established through a migration of over a thousand settlers from Fujian in 1901. Landmarks include the Tua Pek Kong Temple, the Sibu Heritage Centre, and the Sibu Central Market, the largest indoor market in Sarawak.
