South Haven
Van Buren County · United States
Pocket-sized Lake Michigan port town at the mouth of the Black River, South Haven draws visitors to its recreational harbor, beaches, and café-lined centre. Once nicknamed "The Catskills of the Midwest," it became a resort destination in the early 1900s and remains one today. The Kal-Haven Trail, popular with cyclists and snowmobilers, begins here, and Van Buren State Park lies nearby. The childhood home of noted botanist Liberty Hyde Bailey is now a museum in town.
