A car-free East Frisian Island in the North Sea off Lower Saxony, Spiekeroog sits within the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park. The island's single village is reached by daily ferry from Neuharlingersiel on the mainland, with no cars permitted beyond emergency and electric service vehicles. Mudflat hikes, cycling, and beaches are the main draws, and the island has been documented by name since 1398.
