This small Georgian mountain town in the north of the country, Stepantsminda draws trekkers to the surrounding peaks and offers striking views of Mount Kazbeg, with the medieval Holy Trinity Church set against the mountain as a defining image of the place. The town — formerly known as Kazbegi — has a notable concentration of cafés and restaurants for its size, and sits alongside a river with the mountains rising close on all sides.
