Stockton-on-Tees
TLC31 · United Kingdom
A market town on the northern bank of the River Tees in County Durham, Stockton-on-Tees has a walkable centre dense with listed buildings, historic churches, cafés, and restaurants. It holds a particular place in railway history as the terminus of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first permanent steam-powered passenger railway. The River Tees was straightened in the early 19th century to allow larger ships to reach the town, though the ports have since relocated toward the North Sea.
