Tapa, a small Estonian railway junction town between Tallinn and Narva, declared itself the sausage capital of Estonia in 2011 and has since hosted several sausage festivals. The town's identity has long been shaped by its position where the country's main east–west and north–south rail lines cross, and by the Estonian Defence Forces base nearby. The Valgejõgi River runs along its northeastern edge, and a tiny central core offers cafés and restaurants.
