Tarazona
Zaragoza · Spain
Tarazona, on the river Queiles in Aragon, packs an unusual concentration of historic churches and medieval architecture into a modest centre shaped by centuries as a frontier between the kingdoms of Castile, Navarre, and Aragon. Known in Roman times as Turiaso, the town served as a seat of the diocese from at least 449 AD and hosted royal weddings, diplomatic pacts, and parliamentary assemblies through the Middle Ages. The old quarter reflects long coexistence of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities, with heritage spanning from the first century BC onward.
