This town in Myanmar's Magway Region with a notable concentration of historic churches in its centre, Taungdwingyi is also home to the Rakhine Pagoda, a large pagoda in the heart of town that underwent extensive renovation completed in 2013. The township municipality dates to 1887 and sits in a fertile plain that produces more rice than anywhere else in Magway District, with old irrigation channels still visible across the landscape.
