Tondano
Indonesia
Highland town on the shores of Lake Tondano in North Sulawesi, with cool temperatures, a concentration of historic churches, and vineyards in the surrounding area. Tondano is also the birthplace of Sam Ratulangi, national hero and the first governor of Sulawesi. The town's name derives from the Minahasa word for "water people," a fitting reference to the large lake that defines its setting.
