Toropets
Russia
One of the oldest towns in Tver Oblast, Toropets has been recorded since 1074 and is listed among Russia's Historic Settlements. It sits where the Toropa River meets Lake Solomennoye and holds an unusually large number of surviving Orthodox churches for its size, alongside more than forty federally protected cultural heritage sites. A little central core offers cafés and restaurants for visitors exploring this well-preserved historic town in northwestern Russia.
