Tracy City is a pocket-sized Tennessee town in Grundy County that grew out of coal mining and railroad activity after coal was discovered here in 1840. Incorporated in 1915 and named after financier Samuel Franklin Tracy, it carries an unusual footnote in local history: in 2010, residents elected a deceased candidate, Carl Robin Geary, as mayor.
