A town in eastern Uruguay with an outsized role in the country's folk music tradition, Treinta y Tres is the birthplace of several leading figures in the folkloric genre, among them singer-songwriter Rubén Lena and musician Braulio López. The city sits on the north bank of the Olimar Grande River and serves as the capital of its surrounding department.
