This central-western Madagascar town carries a name meaning "One person only reigns," commemorating King Radama I's 1822 victory over the Sakalava king Ramitraho — a piece of history embedded in the place itself. Capital of the Bongolava Region, Tsiroanomandidy has a centre with a concentration of historic churches, with mountains visible from town and water a short drive away.
