A trading town in Sudan's North Kordofan state, Umm Ruwaba serves as a significant hub for oilseed and hibiscus (karkadeh) grain markets, and sits at the junction of road and rail routes connecting western Sudan and South Kordofan to Khartoum and Port Sudan.
