Urueña
Valladolid · Spain
Spain's first designated Book Town, Urueña is a little walled hamlet in Valladolid province where antiquarian and second-hand bookshops line medieval stone streets. Declared a historic-artistic ensemble in 1975, it retains much of its original walls, two gates, castle remains, and the Gothic-Renaissance parish church of Santa María del Azogue. The Romanesque hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Anunciada stands just outside the walls. Several museums sit within the enclosure, and the town offers wide views across the Tierra de Campos plain.
