Užice
Serbia
Set in a limestone gorge along the Đetinja river in western Serbia, Užice spreads red-roofed houses up steep hillsides and sits close to the Zlatibor mountain area. The city served as the seat of the Partisan army in autumn 1941, and medieval ruins survive from an earlier period of importance. A tourist information centre serves visitors exploring the region's mountain scenery and nearby UNESCO-listed sites.
