Vale de Figueira
Portugal
A Ribatejo village in the municipality of Santarém where the river Alviela meets the Tagus, Vale de Figueira sits within the Lezíria meadowlands and is known for its campinos culture of cattle herders, horses, and bulls. Historic quintas dot the surrounding farmland, some holding chapels and antique carriages, and ruins of a Franciscan monastery survive in the village. The Rota dos Avieiros, launched in 2008, has opened walking and river routes through the area for visitors.
