Valle Nevado
Chile
A ski resort in the Andes east of Santiago, Valle Nevado opened in 1988–89 under French developers who modelled it on Alpine winter resorts. It covers one of the largest skiable areas in South America, with on-site lodging, snowmaking, a snow park, and a halfpipe for freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Since 2003 it has hosted a Snowboard World Cup event, and heli-skiing is also available.
