Veria
Ημαθία · Greece
One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Greece, Veria has been settled since around 1000 BC and was already noted by Thucydides in 432 BC. Its walkable centre is dense with Byzantine churches — earning the city the nickname "Little Jerusalem" — and a strong café scene. The Apostle Paul preached here in the 1st century AD, making it one of the earliest Christian communities in the Roman Empire. Just a short drive away lies Vergina, the ancient Macedonian capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the tomb of Philip II.
