Vila Boa do Bispo
Tâmega e Sousa · Portugal
Tiny parish in northern Portugal's Marco de Canaveses municipality where the Tâmega river forms a riverside beach — the Praia do Ribeiro de Baixo — and powers a landscape historically dotted with water mills. The name itself carries history: King Afonso Henriques granted the settlement its charter on 12 February 1141, and the Bishop of Porto, D. Sisnando, spent his final years here. The western slopes of the Rosem hills rise behind the village, with the wider region close to several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
