Vištytis
Lithuania
Sitting on the northeastern shore of Lake Vištytis, this small town in southwestern Lithuania lies on the border with Russia and close to the Polish border. The 18th-century street grid and central square survive intact, alongside a windmill, a Holy Trinity Catholic church dating to 1829, and a Lutheran church. A monument to Vytautas and a local history museum round out the town's modest but coherent heritage centre.
