Vũng Tàu
Ho Chi Minh city · Vietnam
A coastal city on a peninsula in southeastern Vietnam, Vũng Tàu draws visitors with its beaches — including Bãi Sau and Bãi Trước — a warm year-round climate, and landmarks such as the Christ the King statue and the Thích Ca Phật Đài Buddhist site. Two hills, Núi Lớn and Núi Nhỏ, rise above the shoreline. The area also serves as Vietnam's main crude oil extraction centre, a role it took on after functioning as a French-built resort and military base through much of the 20th century. It sits a short drive southwest of Ho Chi Minh City.
