Weert
Netherlands
This walkable Dutch town in the province of Limburg with a heritage-dense centre, several historic churches, and a good spread of cafés and restaurants. Weert sits on the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal and markets itself as the gateway to Limburg, bordering both North Brabant and Belgium. The town received market rights in 1414, and the elevated terrain surrounding it — flanked by the Peel, the Kempen~Broek, and the Maas valley — has long been nicknamed "the island of Weert."
