Werdau
Zwickau · Germany
This Saxon town on the river Pleiße, Werdau has a compact centre with cafés and restaurants within easy reach of the water. First recorded in 1304, it built its identity around textile manufacturing from the 14th century onward, later adding large-scale truck production under the IFA conglomerate before deindustrialisation followed German reunification in 1990. The 1911 town hall, inaugurated by Frederick Augustus III of Saxony, remains a landmark of the centre.
