Wernigerode

Known since the early 20th century by the motto "the brightly coloured town by the Harz," Wernigerode sits on the Holtemme river against the northern slopes of the Harz Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt. The town centre is walkable and photogenic, with a dense food-and-drink scene, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Wernigerode also lies along the German Timber-Frame Road.
