Xianyang

Xianyang, in Shaanxi Province, served as the political capital of the Qin state and the Qin dynasty from 350 BCE, when Duke Xiao relocated the court here and began constructing the royal palace on the northern bank of the Wei River. Excavated remains of the first Qin palace complex survive in the Weicheng district, and the site was designated a nationally protected cultural relic in 1988. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
