Yola

Nigeria

Yola, capital of Nigeria's Adamawa State, sits on the Benue River between the Mandara Mountains to the north and the Shebshi Mountains to the south, and serves as a gateway to some of the region's most significant natural and cultural sites. These include Gashaka Gumpti, one of Nigeria's largest national parks, the Ngel Nyaki montane forest reserve, and the Sukur UNESCO World Heritage Site — Africa's first cultural landscape to receive that designation. The city itself is split between the traditional old town, seat of the Lamido of Adamawa, and the newer commercial centre of Jimeta.
