Aidone
Enna · Italy
The ancient Greek and Hellenistic site of Morgantina, one of Sicily's most significant archaeological sites, sits on a ridge just outside this pocket-sized hilltop town in the province of Enna. Aidone also holds the Arab-Norman castle of Pietratagliata, and the Roman Villa del Casale — a UNESCO World Heritage site — lies a short distance away. The surrounding territory takes in natural woodland, the Ronza park shared with neighbouring towns, and the Ogliastro reservoir, a wetland of naturalistic interest.
