Andimeshk
Iran
During the Pahlavi era, a General Motors military vehicle assembly plant made Andimeshk significant enough that U.S. Army historical sources nicknamed it "Little Detroit." This Khuzestan city grew up around a railway station built in the Reza Shah period beside the ruins of the ancient town of Lour, itself recorded by medieval geographers as a prosperous settlement. The railway hub remains a key node on the Tehran–Ahvaz line, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites, with the ancient city of Shush a short drive to the south.
