A little spa town in Saxony's Vogtland hills, Bad Elster is home to one of Germany's oldest mineral and moorland bath resorts, sitting on the White Elster river near the Czech border. The surrounding wooded hills moderate the climate and offer scenic walking country, while the town itself carries a café and restaurant scene that exceeds what its size might suggest. Both the main settlement and the Sohl district hold official state recognition as a health resort.
