This modest Hungarian village in the mountains of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén holds several historic churches for its size, with scenic viewpoints in the surrounding terrain. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites. Bekecs also has a documented Jewish history: a community lived here through the 19th and early 20th centuries, maintaining a cemetery, before most of its members were murdered in the Holocaust.
