Bochnia's salt mine, worked since the 13th century and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest functioning salt mine in Europe and the town's defining attraction. This southern Polish town on the river Raba also has a walkable old town centre, sits on the edge of the Carpathian foothills, and lies within easy reach of Kraków.
